Top Tips for Preparing Your Commercial Van for Sale
Get the maximum value for your work van.
Work vans have a tough life, but a little bit of preparation can make a massive difference to the price you receive when you decide to sell.
1. Remove Decals and Signwriting
If your van is covered in company logos, it is highly recommended to remove them before selling. A clean white van is much more appealing to the next buyer. Use a heat gun carefully to peel off vinyl stickers, and remove any leftover adhesive with a dedicated tar and glue remover.
2. Clean the Cab and Load Area
A tidy cab shows the vehicle has been cared for. Vacuum the seats, wipe down the dashboard, and empty the glovebox. Importantly, sweep and wash out the rear load area. If you have ply-lining that is completely destroyed, consider removing it or replacing it to show the metal underneath is in good condition.
3. Fix Minor Damage
While buyers expect some wear and tear on a commercial vehicle, fixing broken mirrors, cracked taillights, or major dents can significantly improve your valuation.
4. Organise Your Paperwork
Gather your V5C logbook, MOT certificates, and any service history. Vans with a documented history of regular servicing command a premium price. If you have receipts for major work like a new clutch or timing belt, make sure you have them ready.
5. Upgrading to a New Van
If you're selling your current van to upgrade to a newer model, getting the right finance is crucial. We highly recommend speaking to the specialists at Business Van Finance for the best rates on commercial vehicles.
